CCA Berlin and the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program are pleased to present Winter 26, a group exhibition with works by Tacita Dean, Annika Eriksson, Ayşe Erkmen, Shadi Habib Allah, Aziz Hazara, Thomas Struth, Reijiro Wada, Wang Tuo, Haegue Yang, and Trevor Yeung.
Winter 26 is the third in CCA Berlin’s series of group exhibitions with artists who live and work in Berlin, after Sommer 24 and Frühling 25. This time, artists based in the city show alongside current, former, and future fellows of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program—artists the program has brought to Berlin, some of whom stayed.
Berlin has long been a place shaped by the movements of artists and the communities they form. Many come to Berlin for a few months, a year, or longer. Some leave, some stay, some come back. The exhibition looks at how people find their place in a city like this, through friendships, shared studios, long conversations, and chance meetings.
Each artist chose their works specifically for this exhibition and its architecture. The works on view deal with very different kinds of space. Some are familiar: a living room, a makeshift structure built for play. Others are less visible: the cunning layout of minefields, hypnosis, or the routes that waste travels around the world. These spaces differ in scale and circumstance, but all shape the contexts we move through and live in, and how those places stay with us.
Winter 26 is the last exhibition in the Eiermann building on Breitscheidplatz before CCA Berlin moves out in March 2027 for the building’s renovation. Egon Eiermann designed the ensemble in the early 1960s, next to the ruin of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church: a new building beside a damaged one, in a city still rebuilding itself. This moment of transition resonates with the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program, which has also moved on from its home in Berlin-Kreuzberg after a decade. For both institutions, these experiences raise questions about what a place holds, what it means to move in between spaces, and what you carry with you. The artists selected their works with these questions in mind, exploring different ways of relating to space.
Bringing together these approaches of inhabiting, constructing, and remembering places, Winter 26 looks at Berlin as a city that keeps changing with the people who pass through it, stay, and return.
